People chill in a park in Toronto, Canada. Canada's Department of Environment and Climate Change issued a hot weather warning for Toronto with temperatures expected to soar with temperatures as low on Monday

Ottawa - Residents in the Canadian city of Vancouver, British Columbia, reportedly flooded 25 cooling centers, amid a wave in the country, which has so far seen hundreds of people in temperature.

The death toll from the heatwave in the province of British Columbia has risen to hundreds.

"We've had heat waves before, but not to this extent," said Lou, who is a resident.

"I am appalled by the number of deaths that have occurred," he wrote.

"I don't have air conditioning, just a fan in the house -- I just came here to work in a cool place," Lou explains.

British Columbia, Canada's westernmost province, has been hit by a heatwave for several days.

Temperatures in the region also set a record, which is 49.5 degrees Celsius, recorded in the city of Lytton which has reached a 3-hour drive northeast of Vancouver on Tuesday local time.

This heat wave has claimed many lives. Information from the local police stated that the number was increasing 'hourly'.

As for warnings from meteorologists who said that more extreme temperatures were still possible.
